Computer cases come in many different sizes (form factors), the most common, ATX, and microATX. ATX computer cases are the standard size while microATX is slightly smaller, and is typically used with machines that don’t need as much power, or ones that you want to be low-profile. With the introduction of living room media center PCs the smaller form factors have flourished as people are looking for smaller, more natural cases to fit into their living room decorations that perform all the same things as a regular desktop PC and more.
Computer enthusiasts often ‘mod’ their computer cases. Modding includes changing the outside appearance, customizing the appearance, or even the purpose of the computer, some people have made coffee makers out of their computers, or computers out of their coffee makers. What to consider when buying a computer case:
Outside appearance: Remember, you’re going to be looking at it for practically every day for at least the next year or so so get a computer case that you like to at, or is visually pleasing, so get a computer case that you enjoy, or if you can’t just seem to find a good computer case build your own.
Form Factor: Make sure if you buy an ATX style motherboard you get an ATX computer case, or else all your component won’t fit inside it.
Cooling: The computer case needs to have plenty of cooling options to keep your computer cool, if it only has one, you can easily add in another one for less than $5, just make sure it has an extra spot for the fan. You want the air to be traveling from the front to outside the back.
