Vista SP1 Issues

Windows Vista

With the release of the Vista SP1 RTM to manufacturers on February 4th, the blogosphere and tech news websites were ecstatic, not only because the release meant that Windows Vista SP1 should be finally finished, but Microsoft also stated when average users should be able to get their hands on it (It was also made available to torrent users, if you’re daring). The downloadable version of Windows SP1 will be on the Windows Update website sometime mid-March, and for those who only use automatic updates it will be installed onto their machine in mid-April.
Vista’s SP1 includes many, many minor bug fixes and they completely changed the kernel core, however one thing it’s lacking that Microsoft promised was the amazing performance increases. The speed increases would make everything worthwhile, because after all that’s originally what was going to make Vista so amazing, wasn’t it? Instant-on, no reason to shutdown your computer, an amazing new Aero Glass interface that’s as speedy as a cheetah. The speed increases that Microsoft promised us have varied slightly from user to user, some people say there are increases, however they’re not very noticeable, or something increased greatly, while something else’s performance decreased. According to a few tests from PC World: file copying improved, while startup and shutdown times were left virtually unchanged, and results on a zipping and file transfer test produced worse results than before the service pack upgrade.
I dunno about you guys, but it just seems like Microsoft can’t get this Vista thing right. They should step up to the plate and finally give what they’ve promised, because it’s getting old listening to the same old thing.
