The 10 Windows Keyboard Shortcuts That Speed Up Your Windows Usage By Increasing Productivity

  1. Windows Key+R - Brings up the command prompt. You probably didn’t about this one, eh?
  2. Alt+Tab - This keyboard shortcut greatly speeds things up, because it switches between all of your Windows, you’ll hold down Alt, then keep pushing tab and it will tell you which window you want to switch to as well.
  3. Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V - These are the only keyboard shortcuts you’ll ever need for copying, cutting, and pasting text, programs, and files. Ctrl+X performs the Cut command. Ctrl+C does the Copy command, and Ctrl+V is the shortcut you use for the Paste command. I use these three Windows keyboard shortcuts everyday while writing for this blog.
  4. Windows Key+D - This keyboard shortcut minimizes all of your currently opened windows. Doing the shortcut again, brings them back to their original size, a handy keyboard shortcut for getting to your desktop fast.
  5. Shift+D - Using Shift+D keyboard shortcut allows you to delete an item directly without sending it to the recycle bin, be careful when using this, because you could delete something important, and not be able to get it back.
  6. Windows Key+E - A quick easy keyboard shortcut that you should remember, this one opens up ‘My Computer’.
  7. Windows Key+F - This keyboard shortcut lets you search for a folder, or file. It brings up the search dialogue box with the cute little puppy that’s supposed to help you find your files.
  8. F3 - F3 is the ultimate ‘Find’ shortcut key, push F3 in Firefox and it brings up the Find function for finding specific words, push F3 while in Windows Explorer is brings up the file search, I’m sure if you pushed F3 in Notepad, you’ll also get the word find utility.
  9. Hold shift down while inserting a CD - This handy little Windows XP keyboard shortcut disables autorun if you hold shift while inserting a CD, I always hate having to mess around with that autorun crap especially when I don’t even want to run the install from the CD, or the specific program that Windows wants me to load with it.
  10. Windows Key+L - This last Windows shortcut won’t speed up your Windows navigation, but it will lock your computer so you can leave it unattended without worrying about anyone getting into it when you’re not at it, that is if you have a password setup.

There are many different keyboard shortcuts to use in Windows, some are useful, like these, and then the rest are not so useful, and I’d have no idea why anyone would think of those.
